Static-X is a people's band. Playing
music, not because some record company is paying them to play; but because they
love it. Static-X is an industrial band, completely formed in LA. But the roots
of Static-X lie in 2 rural towns in the Midwest: Shelby, Michigan, Wayne Static's
hometown and Jamaica, Illonios, Ken Jay's birthplace. To make their rock and roll
dream possible, they both went to Chicago. Wayne had started up a gothic band,>Deep
Blue Dream, sharing the same practicing space as the then un-signed Smashing Pumpkin,
Billy Corgan. Billy was, at the time, working at a music store along side Ken
Jay. Billy introduced Ken to Wayne and Deep Blue Dream
had a new drummer. Because of the poor music scene and the crappy weather, the
two moved to sunny LA. Soon they put an ad in the paper for a guitarist.
Osaka-born Kiochi Fukuda came in. "He came into our rehearsal room, hold-ing an
ad he had torn off the wall and said 'I'm your new guitarist' recalls Wayne. Tony
Campos had then been playing in a death metal band. "He just kinda showed up and
never left" says Ken. Static-X has developed a following by playing local
venues by themselves and with other local bands. Their goal since has been very
simple. To make music that they really enjoy. |

| Well, it worked and they
were signed to Warner Bros. records in 1998. Three months later they were
recording their first album, Wisconsin Death Trip. Ever since they have been touring,
practically non-stop, to reach their dream. Their video "Push It" was deemed Buzzworthy
on MTV and is played on MTV and MTV2 often. And Keep Disco Evil. Information taken from the official Static-X site. |
